Maya Bay : The Beach (film with Leonardo Di Caprio)

By Elpis

Ko Phi Phi Leh Island is high on the list of things to do to when visiting Thailandand Maya bay has the most stunning beaches. Most tourists want to see Maya Bay at least once in their lifetime!

I was part of a group of seven who got the opportunity to sail on a beautiful long-tail boat to explore Ko Phi Phi Don Island. We set off on of the most awe inspiring journey ever!

First we stopped off for some snorkelling at Shark Point, fortunately with only colourful coral and exotic small fishes to grab our attention this time! After that, we headed to the uninhabited Bamboo Island, with its magnificent pure golden sand beaches!

Next stop on this beautiful excursion was Monkey Island, where these playful creatures were frolicking all over the island. After swimming in the clear turquoise water it was time for lunch. Our guide had brought along Thai chicken curry and fresh pineapple to feast on!

After fully satisfying our appetites we were ready to head to the famous Maya Bay, paradise on earth, as many people say! As we rounded the cliff walls from the open sea at the mouth of Maya Bay, we could not help but be awe struck by the perfection and majesty of the place!

If you have seen the movie, you will have an idea of how picturesque the Island is but in reality, when you are in the long-tail boat sailing between these huge cliffs and seeing the crystalline clear blue water around you truly takes your breath away!

The main beach is around 200 metres of silky soft white sand framed by a verdant tropical forest as a backdrop! On the ‘’mainland’’ of the island are camp sites for people who would like to stay the night.

The sun was starting to set on our wonderful day trip that was, far too soon, reaching its end, so we started our way back to the cozy bamboo huts in Ko Phi Phi Don island.

To be honest this trip will always be one of the most memorable days of my life. I think of this day often catching myself with a serene smile on my face!
