Mauritius: A stunning island with untouched beaches and amazing people!

By Elpis

Mauritius was made first and then heaven was copied from it”, Mark Twain once famously said, and it is so true! This small, multicultural island that lies in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar and southeast of the Seychelles, made me feel so blessed being there.

If you are dreaming of endless white sand beaches with crystal clear turquoise waters, Mauritius is the absolute destination. The contrast of colours, cultures and tastes makes the island so charming that the scene is set for an unforgettable holiday.

For one more time, the excuse to visit an another tropical island was my favourite sport, beach tennis of course! With so many stunning beaches, Mauritius could not be left out from the beach tennis calendar, so we did not miss this opportunity.

Staying at one of the most popular destinations of the island, Flic en Flac, after drinking a refreshing coconut and tasting a juicy pineapple in the beach, we had our first swim. With the palm trees surrounded and all these amazing tones of blue, you may find it hard to believe that the scenery isn’t computer-generated.

One thing that I loved in Mauritius, is that all this natural beauty of the beaches is open to everybody, so among the tourists you can see quite a couple of Mauritian families, having a picnic with these huge pots of curry that smell incredibly nice.
I will never forget the amazing octopus and fish curry we had at a tiny restaurant by the beach.
Talking about food, don’t even think to miss the daily market in Port Louis. There you will have a glimpse of Mauritian life. Everything can be found in there, from exotic fruits, vegetables and spices to meat and clothes. There is also a snack area where all sorts of Mauritian snacks are sold from the common dhal puri to chicken sandwiches, fresh bread, tea, coffee and the typical Mauritian refreshing drink Alouda (you really have to try the last)!
The last 3 days of our stay in the island, we rent a scooter so that we could explore the island. It was the best idea ever. Driving through lush green natural rainforest and right next to unspoilt splendid white sand beaches… we just could not stop!

One of our favourite spots, was Troux Aux Biches. We were lucky enough to swim in the huge swimming pool of the luxurious resort just in front of the beach surrounded by a bunch of palm trees. That was the absolute moment of relaxation, this moment is forever etched in my mind as one of the greatest ever!
Mauritius is also famous for its submarine life. Snorkelling is a must activity as through the warm clear water you can see an uncountable amount of tropical and colourful fish. An another activity that we enjoyed a lot, was to swim with a group of wild dolphins that have chosen Tamarin bay as their natural habitat.

Before leaving this stunning island you cannot afford to miss the tiny paradise called Ile Aux Cerfs. The island is the property of a five star hotel (The Touessrok Hotel), nests a golf course and when you get there, you realise that you will definitely have a day of relaxation and fun on one of the picture-postcard beaches, and enjoy a swim in the beautiful lagoon.
Of course there are so many pristine beaches that we loved such as Moint Choisy, Le Morne, Pereybere, etc. I will also never forget a beach party at Flic en Flac where we danced ‘’Sega’’ (the traditional music) with locals. People in Mauritius are so friendly and hospitable like in very few places on earth. My last night, I slept at a local family that treated me only as my family does!
The only thing that I know for sure, is that one day we will definitely come back.
I love Mauritiuuuuuuuuuus :)

Rajkinghi . thanks for your worednful effort to look cool, your message strike it where its hurts. Good job man continue with enlightening people. I really take nisha when reading your facts on articles. Maurice a velo, but no security. The licencing authority , dept of transport must have a recall for all drivers to compulsorily have a routine checks and retest if fail for all drivers. This must be compulsory otherwise failure to attend the test on 3 reminders , licence must be forfeited. Simple theory man.
