Brugge: A Flemish Disneyland!

Brugge is located in the lowlands of north-western Flanders, near the North Sea, and it is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. As a monument to the age of chivalry, Bruges has few equals. The historic centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.
Being in Brugge is like being in a fairy tale. It is the magical place where people come to look for freedom and happiness. I was taken aback from the architecture, beauty and history of this small beautiful city!
Although I visited Brugge 3 times, because all my friends that were coming to visit me in Belgium wanted of course to visit Brugge, every time I was falling in love more and more with its medieval charm. It is definitely a place that tempts you back again and again!
Unfortunately the beauty of Belgian cities is often underestimated, as they are more famous for their beers, fries, waffles and chocolates. But Brugge is a romantic city of ancient, beautifully kept buildings, medieval squares and canals criss-crossed by cobbled streets, charm enough to knock you sideways.
Wandering around the pedestrianized centre, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported back in time to a 15th Century market town, (along with a few thousand other tourists for company!). The historical centre of Brugge, largely traffic-free, is easy to walk around and it is easy to find your way to the highlights.
Brugge is very small and you can easily stroll and see most of the sights within few hours. Another worthy thing that is the canal boat tour which covers most of the city in half an hour and you get a lot of information from the boat driver that you probably would not get otherwise!
‘’The Markt’’ and ‘’The Burg’’ are the two main squares of the town. The first one is full of fine step-gabled houses, most of which are now busy cafés, bars and restaurants, and the second one, smaller but prettier, is the place where you can admire the Town Hall, a Gothic Hall of great beauty relating the long, prosperous history of the city.
Known as the Venice of the North, Brugge is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and a place that I would really love to live in for a period of my life.
Hope to be back soon :)
